Short version: This has been the worst experience we've ever had in a hotel and the absolute worst in 6 months of travel in SEA. Please do not stay here. The staff are deceitful, management is negligent, the place is filthy & overpriced when compared to other, nicer hotels in the area. Long version: Zenora is NOT safe, it's not clean and the staff is awful. When checking in, we were given the option of a 2nd floor streetside room or a bungalow at the beach. Despite it being dirty even upon first glance, we chose the bungalow, planning to trade the grunge to enjoy direct access to the beach. After alerting staff of the little jumping bugs we found on the bed among the clear, glossy stains on the sheets, we googled "bed bugs" as the room was sprayed with Raid & the sheets were changed. The second day, items were stolen from our balcony. Staff reviewed the "security footage" with my travel partner as I walked the beach, thinking I might be able to locate some of our stuff. Nearly every other beachfront property has uniformed security except Zenora. Theft is clearly an issue in Mui Ne. The video footage of the hotel walkway didn't capture anyone entering the property from the beach. Low and behold the only video camera that doesn't work was the one outside of our room. Odd for a hotel with any care about guest safety in an area clearly riddled with issues. Zenora staff stated they wanted to "make us happy" because it "was the hotel's fault about the theft and they are fully responsible." When I explained the value of the shoes and that I wanted to call the police to file a report, Zenora staff told us we could not contact the police, as the station was closed on the weekend (the next two days). Another staff member then told us the police station would be open the next day (Sunday) and that we would also be able to speak with the manager of the hotel who would be there at 2pm. When we explained that the other staff told us the police station was closed for the weekend, he said that must be because the staff was too busy to take us there. We were the only guests staying in the entire hotel. In the meantime, I wanted to get some fresh air and walk to the police station to see where it was. Surprise surprise, it was open! Upon return to the hotel with instructions from the police letting staff know we went to the police station, they were absolutely not happy. Everything changed. I was immediately told that the hotel was no longer responsible for the theft and they didn't have to pay me any money. Later that night, at 11:15pm, we jolted out of bed as the door handle of our back door (same one leading to the balcony where items were stolen) was being jiggled. Upon yelling and running outside "security" who was not there the night before said they were doing security checks. Who arranges for their security to open occupied room doors? What would have happened if the door was open? If I were a single female staying alone would a male security guard be "checking my door"? Scary. In waking the next morning, after an exhausting hotel stay thus far, we decided to check out early. The staff continued to play games over the course of the next 3 hours with both us and Agoda, refusing to provide reimbursement. Agoda finally provided us with a refund. Yay, Agoda! Upon leaving the hotel to check in down the street, Zenora staff all of a sudden stated they had money for us if we signed a document. In reading the form, it was backdated to our check in with a clause at the bottom that stated the hotel was not responsible for theft. We refused to sign the document. They tried to then shortchange us on the exchange rate in one final act of ridiculousness. If that weren't enough, FYI- the staff reuses the documents provided to the police with everyone's passport information, including full names, date of birth, passport numbers, etc. Identity theft anyone? Zenora's website says they are a Zen Buddhist resort. This is a disgrace. Save your vacation, don't stay here! This place is a joke.
